As our Maya ancestors would say, Chocolate/Cacao is the golden food that should be part of every diet.  In Belize we produce some of the best chocolates in the world, in our own backyard, using traditional methods of the Maya.  In-fact we love cacao and chocolate so much that we offer a weekend dedicated to indulging in it!

Journey to southern Belize, Punta Gorda May 19th – 21st, for the grand 2017 Chocolate Festival of Belize!

You’ll meet new friends here solo-travelers, be prepared for all things Belize: friendly people, diverse cultures and especially delicious eats.

Chocolate Festival Events:

  1. May 19th: The opening night “Wine and Chocolate Night” will be held at Garbutt’s Marine and Fishing Lodge located on Front Street in Punta Gorda Town. This is an intimate setting where chocolatiers and chocolate lovers gather to share in the celebration of this product. It is an open event to all, however tickets must be purchased at $60 Bz per person for entrance. Attendees are offered complimentary wines and a buffet of chocolate creations to sample, appetizers are also given. Cultural performances compliment the ambiance of the event.
  2. May 20th: “Taste of Toledo” Street Fair is a full-day of chocolate, local cuisines, drinks, arts, games and local performances on Front Street, Punta Gorda Town. You can spend the day walking through the many stalls selling chocolates, foods, arts or showcasing their unique businesses. This is an opportunity to mingle with the community and to learn more about the significance of the cacao as many food vendors and restaurants have infused chocolate into their dishes!
  3. May 21st: “Grand Finale”, as traditions go this day features the dances and music by Maya performers and artists. It all takes place 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Julian Cho Technical High School (approximately 20 minutes to Punta Gorda Town). If you’ve ever wondered what truly traditional Maya meals are like, here is the perfect setting to indulge in it ALL!
